Today, we’re taking a first good look at the BRK Ranger XR2 Recon. Hard Air Magazine readers will remember seeing this new model in our report from the 2026 IWA OutdoorClassics Show.
In total, there’s four models included in the new Ranger XR2 line, all based on the same, proven, receiver. They are designated as the “Lite”, “Recon”, “Compact” and “Tactical”.
These are chunky, compact airguns that build upon the reputation of the original Ranger as a versatile, reliable pest-control tool. And they’re starting to arrive at Airguns of Arizona now for US customers.
The Ranger XR2 series is intended for owners who want some tuning capability, but who don’t want to go the whole way with an externally-adjustable regulator. Sure, there’s an adjustable transfer port and hammer spring adjustment capability. But the gun is more likely to appeal to an owner looking for a gun that’s ready to shoot “out of the box”.
As a “tube gun”, they also do not include a bulky HPA bottle. This appeals to many people, too. It’s good to see BRK offering a choice in their range.
BRK Ranger XR2 models differ primarily in respect to barrel length, stock and length of fore end/chassis. Although we are specifically looking at the Recon, many of our comments also apply to the other members of the family, too.
Another interesting aspect to the gun we have here is that it’s in .177 caliber with a slug barrel. For the USA, this is an unusual combination and we plan to test it out with a range of suitable slugs…
We’re expecting to find Muzzle Energies in the 25 Ft/Lbs range, together with some decidedly flat shooting. That could be a very interesting combination for pest control specialists and – possibly – some long range target shooting.
The Ranger XR2 range can be found at Airguns of Arizona and Precision Airgun Distribution dealers across the USA. The price is $1,749.99.
