The answer to this mystery is simple: during the Corona inflicted shortages, our standard tin supplier was unable to deliver. So we had to buy from another manufacturer (whose tins are unfortunately also more expensive). Thank God the situation has normalized and we can get the cheap ones again...

The Crow Magnums are definitely not match grade pellets and I recommend them for hunting/pesting up to 30 yards max. But that sounds more like defective pellets. Perhaps the skirts had been deformed in transit?

That probably wouldn't work. Sealing against gas pressure must be through the skirt.
