Break Barrel Somebody school me on the HW98

I can't help but think it's a HW95 with a barrel sleeve and a cheekpiece. But, many consider it to be in a different class.

So, what's the real dope on them?

It's a hw 95 and different stock / configuration I guess. Mechanical the same

But there's the 98 match as well with standard barrel

I had the shorter barreled non-adjustable stock version that was sold under the Marksman label, but was the same gun. A very nice shooting gun. You can't go wrong with it. My brother loved it so much, he has it now. He only got it because the auto safety drove me nuts(because I could not de-cock the gun, and I won't own any airgun that I can't uncock), I had two FWB124D's anyway, and their safety is much easier to disengage (and they are de-cockable). After he got it, years later, he asked me to make it a manual safety (so he could de-cock it). I figured out a way and wished I had done that while I owned it at the start, that's for sure. The stipling on the stock was some of the best I've ever used. That's why I had impulsed bought it at a gun shop the first time I saw it and held it. A real treat compared to most.

It's in a different class because it is a nicer airgun. Same trigger, same power plant inside. It is heavier, which help recoil. The barrel is threaded, but so is the HW95 scope combo as well.

I read at agn that krale has these guns on sale so check out that hw98 and see if it's a deal or not .

I have a Beeman R11 I got around 2001. It’s a hell of a rifle. The weighted barrel and adjustable stock are great and really make the rifle what it is. The rifle shoots great and I have shot other R11s and HW98s and they all shot great. It will shoot just as well as my TX200, if not better. Very underrated rifle. IMO it the best break barrel made today and on the same level as a TX200 or HW97.

Still a lot of mystery to me about these.
I've read more than a few times that the 98 is in a different class than other Wiehrauch break barrels (I'm paraphrasing).

But I don't think I've ever seen a hard "why".
Maybe 98 owners are just super happy with the extra weight up front and the cheekpiece that the guns seem perfect to them?

Not trying to sound rude but buy one and try it out for yourself and if it’s not to your liking I’m sure you will find it easy to sell. The 98 fits me well with balance, point ability ,accuracy and the adjustable cheek rest all are great attributes to a tested platform. But no sights lol.

but I've done plenty of that over the years. Trying to tone that down a little, it gets expensive.

All I think they did was us 98 stock and 95 action in it . . Nobody else sells one ...lol .

If it any better or more adult to shoulder hhr the stock 95/r9 stock it's got to be a big plus .

The hw 95/r9 regular luxus stick I'd too small more like a 8 year old sized .. kinda uncomfortable to me to dholder and shoot of all I got.

IMO you want the weighted barrel on the 98. That is key. Not just the adjustable stock. Buy the rifle. You won’t regret it.

Depending on what you do is the difference. The 98 is better off the bench because of the weight. Springers do better and shoot easier with more weight. Carrying around the woods is a different story. I guess I'm getting older as I used to carry around a RX-1 all day long and never complain.

Just glue some on it and put a scope on, then you can always have sights if the scope fails or have a backup scope on hand. Just kidding Mc.

The OP has never said he wanted sights. Obviously he doesn’t or he wouldn’t be interested in a HW98.
