What is up with Monster Redesigned Deeps?

The skirt is much thinner than the previous 4 tins that I have purchased. (No surprise that the thin skirts have a lot of damage throughout the can.)

Just a random five from each tin.

The thinner skirt tin also has charcoal colored foam.

White foam - PA, charcoal gray - AOA not that that should matter.

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to try them this weekend.
Do let us know how you do with em! I've shot every Mrd I can get my hands on, deeps seemed the best but it's hit or miss. I've noticed inconsistencies in the pellets in the tin or from tin to tin of the same pellets. There is some QC lacking concerning JSBs packaging/head sizing lately. I bought a few tins of regular Mrds last year from D&L that were consignment...was hoping that they were the old accurate ones. Mrds do hit mighty hard though💥🥳.

As far as JSB and thin skirts go, I find it mighty strange that the MRD's have damaged skirts when those skirts are twice as thick as the skirts on their Knock Out slugs, and I haven't had a damaged one yet in .177 or .22. How can the thinner skirts be surviving the shipping process better, coming out of the same factory? If you haven't seen the paper thin skirts on the Knock Outs yet, you are in for a surprise. They are the best new thing for projectiles of any type, out of the hype machine that is airgunning lately, that I have actually benefited from. The AEA that I have tried, the 50.5gr .30, and the 21.9gr .22, have not shot better out of my airguns. I am going to give JTS a shot this summer, but if their 18gr .22 can't beat the JSB in my guns, than I will be completely back on board with JSB. JSB is still my guns favorite.

They certainly need to fix their MRD problem, that's been dragging them down for years now. What is up with that?

Is it just me or will any inconsistency start raising the alarm in regards to all things Airguns?

I’m constantly striving for consistency i.e. holds, shot placement even fill pressure and millions of other details… I have spent countless hours on DOPE for the Sniper.

Now this pops up, which may not be any big deal but it has me flipping out 🤪.

This didn't "just pop up" this has been going on since right around Covid, basically about a year after the founder/owner of JSB died. At least that's how I remember it. Before then, just about everyone that had a .22 capable of getting the 25 grainer up to speed was shooting it.

I just hadn’t seen the gray foam before, I didn’t know if I had received old stock or if they had changed some manufacturing practice like outsourcing to a different factory.

I’ve read they typically run the dies past their mechanical limits, but It can be very difficult trudging through Internet lore for facts.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is not to buy as many tins at one time, it’s simply a crapshoot. I don’t know if I’m going to get a good batch or a bad one.

Pretty sure I have five or six cans of Hades .25 that are trash.

I wonder if there’s word or something when batches of greater and lesser quality become available? Perhaps just asking one of the smaller dealers “How are the 18.13’s shooting?” or similar. I wonder if you’d get a straight answer or just some non-descriptive pleasantry.

Usually only top, team, and sponsored shooters have that kind of relationship with the distributors. If you buy a particular pellet by the box at least you will have a lot number on it. If you only buy tins you won't. So buy by the box, test immediately, if you like them, call and ask if they have more of that lot. Too much trouble to me personally, but if I was competing I would. Centercut has a thread going on right now about AEA .30 50.5gr pellets, over on AGN, about how some of those lots are different, so it's not just a JSB problem.

Recently though jsb has been bad in all calibers. The 22 mrd’s skirts arent the big problem in my mind for 100 yd shooting but sometimes weighing more than a grain more than the next 1 is. Had some 177 10.3’s that would fall through the smallest hole on my head sizing gauge. Just seems like their quality control is lax.

How much more demand since Covid? A lot of people honestly won't be able to tell the difference. And JSB only has to be better than the pellets available at big box stores to get sales.

I think they lost a lot of the pellet checkers during covid and never got them back. I don't know about all the calibers of pellets being bad because I haven't bought any lately but their Knock Out slugs seems to be doing great from everything I'm reading on these, and other, forums. My own experience with them has been stellar.
