Hi Everyone.

I need some advice (again!)

I want to order a FX Superior Heavy Slug liner (700mm) for my M4 to shoot slugs in our local 50m unlimited benchrest class. I see slugs are available in a range of sizes .216, .217, .218 and .219.

Any recommendation on the best size for the FX liner? I do have some slugs, .217 size, but since my closest supplier is far away and shipping is slow (I am in a rural area) I would like to get at least the size right so that I can order a selection of slugs.

I still need to figure out slug weight and brand but I suppose I would need to test to see what works best. I can get the Zan and locally produced Inferno brands easily but I might try others as well if someone had good results with them.

Any information or recommendations would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Rudi

I have an M3 with a slug liner. I am running .217 NSA 24.8g slugs with fantastic accuracy out to 100 yards. I am running them around 1000fps.

I have a number of slugs and started with the lowest weight. They shot so well I never tested anything else. I have used them to take woodchucks at 100 yards with great results. As these run low I will test some others of different weights and sizes.

Honestly, I would buy a box of .217 and .218 in the weight you like and test them both. Then buy more of whatever size it liked best.

Thanks John.

I have ordered a selection of slugs, mostly what is available locally like H&N, NSA and Zan in different weights and sizes. Will start testing soon! Right now our weather limits my time on the shooting range, it is extremely hot most days, saw 47.5C the other day and there was a 51C recorded not far from me. It does look like next week will be a bit cooler so there is hope!

Will report back once I have some results!

You and I are in very different climates!! It was 5F (-15C) here the other day! It looks like we will have a high right around 0C today.

Good luck with your testing and let me know what you find!

John
Wow, -15C is low! We might go down to 0C at night during winter but that does not happen often, cold winter days at night will be around 3-5C and the days high teens or low 20's.

Thanks, lots of fun testing.
