I got myself a treat for the holidays in the form of a Red Wolf Midnight 177 Standard.

I had one a few years ago in the form of a regular red stocked 177 standard Red Wolf. I guess at the time I was more into bullpups and even though it was amazingly accurate I let it go after owning it for only a few months. After a few years going back and forth with bullpups I've realized I am just more accurate with a standard rifle stock format.

I've been using a BRK Pathfinder 177 since early 2023 but wanted something with a bit more kick. So, back to the Red Wolf, and very happy I did.

I've spent the past few weeks just getting to know the rifle and it's been a pleasure. I was a little underwhelmed by the ootb power as High was only pushing 17.25 fpe, but easily remedied with a Heliboard from Jack. Received and installed yesterday and it's really brought the RW to life as I had hoped. Just messing around with the settings and Power levels and trying different ammo to see what is worth stretching out to further distances. I was amazed to get 32.7 fpe with the Zan 20gr slugs - and with the potential they may shoot well at distance. This level of 177 power from a 17" RW standard barrel really impresses me. I couldn't get much more than 25 fpe out of the RW from a few years back - maybe some hardware changes in the valving?

This RW has not been pellet/slug picky either. I've had good initial success with the Benji Single Die 10.5gr, H&N Barracuda Match 10.65gr, Daystate Howlers, Zan 13gr, Zan 20gr, JSB 16.2gr. I was able to pull some very tight groups at 46 yards with the single die Benji's which made me happy.

The red is a good look but the blue to me is just a bit more touch of Class! All in the eye of the Beholder!

I really like the blue. I may see about getting a spare walnut stock to keep the laminate one safer when out and about.

I've had a few chances this week to shoot out to the back yard during the day. At 46 yards the 20gr Zans are able to group around 1 inch. The Benji's can pull a 1/4" group if the wind stays super calm. Still need to try the Howlers out at distance.

Overall a super accurate and fun rifle to shoot. It just sips air in 177 form.

That's like marrying a super model, and saving her for the next guy. Enjoy it. Glad to see someone buy the "standard" version. I'd like one in midnight to go with my Red HP. Have fun.

LOL - good one! :D

I don't need to stretch 177 out further than 50 yards so the Standard is plenty fine for me. Overkill even - but hey...... ;) For 100 yards I'm pulling out the .25 HP for sure.
