Hi All,

Jack here. I live in Ireland and shoot quite a bit. Dipping my toes in the world of air guns and just picked up a Stoeger XM1 Ranger couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to learning a few things.

Bit of my experience:

I do a fair bit of shooting - I own a few shotguns in 12 and 20 guages. Have a .22LR, .223 and a .308Win. I mainly hunt deer but also shoot a lot of pests around my permissions.

Regards,

Jack

Hey Jack, I'm really enjoying my Stoeger XM1 Ranger in 25 caliber too! What a great accurate air rifle it is. It's a critter gitter for, sure. Still tuning it in and trying different pellets and got the bore good and clean as well. Got a barrel band off of ebay to tighten it up. Enjoy man!

Welcome aboard Jack. No restrictions in the Republic like that "other" Island?
Heading to Ireland in September with a tour group. Looking forward to a "real" pint of Guiness.

The restrictions are even worse than that other island. All air guns over 1 Joule (.7 ft/lbs) are classed as a firearm and you need to apply for a license unfortunately.

Good to hear you're coming for a visit! Make sure you try to split the G on your first gulp.

Where in Ireland are you visiting?

With CIE tours, Mostly the Wild Atlantic Way. Dublin (imagine that), Donegal, Galway, Dingle, Adare, Blarney Castle ending in Dublin. Looking forward to a "Stoutie" made, will try to make the GPO to pay my honors.

Sorry for the late reply!

Yeah I noticed, does your fill protector rattle a bit off the barrel? I'm still breaking it in and finding best pellets too. Currently shooting H&N Barcuda extremes at around 800fps but would be interested in messing with the hammer spring. How much of an increase in FPS can I expect? I'd like to get it up to ~900

Welcome to the addiction Jack! I also have an XM1 Ranger, and with the Reg preset below 1400 PSI I didn't get alot of speed with anything Heavy. I tried some 25gr, and only ended up with about 670 or so If I remember correctly. The 18 grn were good, and the 14-17 Grn were even faster. Enjoy!

The fill port protector is a little floppy on mine too but it works just fine. Been using the Jsb 25.39 pellets as i have a huge supply of them in stock so I haven't really shot any other ammo yet to test. I would like to try the AEA center punch pellets when i get low on the JSBs to see how well they perform in the rifle. When you do mess with the hammer spring just go in about a quarter turn at a time and recheck every shot. I've got mine around 830 fps so i still get 4 mags before refilling. I've got a carbon fiber shroud coming from Airgun Revisions and its supposed to give the barrel more stability too. What a well made rifle!
