So I caved and bought the notos. So many on here and elsewhere praising it. figured I’d give it a try.
now to premise, the last time I owned a “budget” gun was my gamo urban, about 2 years ago, and I was spoiled by that gun.

I received the Notos yesterday, and was able to unbox it and scope it up this morning. First impressions were ok. It feels tough, metal in most areas, very well balanced, and super light. Scoped it with a veyron 4-16 and aired it up ready for when I got back from work. I did not clean the barrel (maybe I should have), but I wanted to make sure it held air before shooting it.

so I get home from work, pull out the notos, load up the mag with cphp, and head out to the yard to sight in. First thing I notice, the cocking is very gritty, and very heavy for the power it’s producing. Again, sub $300 rifle, so to be expecited.

i take a couple shots, and the mag jams. A bunch of wiggling, and pushing, and it finally gets the pellet into the barrel. Damaged obviously by its accuracy. This happens 3 more times before I threw in the towel and installed the single shot tray.
i continued to sight it in at 30yds, and it’s not very consistent. I’m guessing due to my lack of cleaning the barrel, but more so, I was surprised at how loud it was. This moderator is the size of a sumo or snipe, and it barely does a thing to the report. For such a low power setup, I would call it LOUD For what it is. Not happy there.

im not sure whether I want to keep it, and put work into it, or just return it for now. I wanted to set this up for ratting and low power barn work. So far, it’s too loud for ratting and barns, the trigger is horrible, the mag doesn’t work, and it’s stiff to cock.

other than that, I guess it’s ok. lol

im open to criticism. Other Notos owners chime in with your thoughts. Do I put the work into and make it “nice” or do I send it back for a refund bc I’m being too snobby?

Let me give a little background before I address your issues with your Notos. I have been moving to .177 over the last few years because I’m getting older and am limited to my 60 yard range off my deck (can’t walk very far now days). I did buy an AAA EVOL Mini 22 about 9 months ago because I wanted the best carbine available. The EVOL was one of the best PCPs I have ever owned but was way more of a carbine than I needed for my use, so I sold it. The max power I need/can use is about 20fpe.

I bought my Notos on a whim based on a great 4th of July sale price and all the positive talk on the forums. Even though it was a .22 I was curious about the Notos so I bought one. My concern was the fact Snowpeak made the Notos and I have had terrible experiences with Snowpeak barrels in the past. To my surprise my Notos was fairly accurate out of the box. The main issues I had read about were non-removable moderator, the trigger and the magazine.

Moderator noise is subjective so I will not address that issue but I do wish it was removable/replaceable. I made the trigger acceptable with a little polishing. Also, I threw the magazine away when I opened the box (based on many reviews) and ordered a CARM magazine and single shot loader. Because I always used the Notos single shot tray when I was testing and adjusting my Notos, I didn't experienced the gritty cocking you have seen. The regulator on my Notos is very good and the extreme spread is single digits.

With all that said, I would return your Notos if it is not accurate. Most of your concerns are correctable at a low cost but bad accuracy will require a new barrel based on my experience with Snowpeak barrels.

My Notos is very quiet and very accurate out of the box. I would estimate that your accuracy and noise issues are from a bad o ring. Particularly a breech o-ring or an outer barrel o-ring. Another issue possible is there is too much hammer tension. I have noticed on mine that when adjusting the hammer spring tension there is a point where more tension only produces more noise and no more fps. Backing off the spring tension will bring noise down and make the rifle more efficient on air. A lot of spring tension could also cause your cocking issue.
The magazines stink for the Notos. I’m told that the CARM magazines for it are great though.
I would advise to return it for another. I believe you’ll be happy with one that is performing correctly.

I did similarly before caving on the Atomic XR. I used an Artemis PP700SA on rats to great effect. Based off that I purchased a Reximex RP, a sexy mess. @TroyHammer, generously offered his help and made it better. Sold the Reximex acquired the Atomic XR and am never looking back. The Atomic has to be used to be believe. A wicked little beastie. Enough for thirty plus kills if you do you part on one fill.

Well I adjusted the trigger today, and even though it’s still heavy, there’s very little to no creep left. I’ll clean the barrel, and see how accuracy is after that. Then I’ll decide whether or not to keep it.
thanks all for the help!
Always remember... I appreciate gifts if it just dont work out for ya. 😉

I think workout the fresh new gun buggs and some good shooting time it will be worthy..

The stock mags (I've found) are a little finicky, mostly with the magnet lining up properly. If you just plop it in and let it stick where the magnets fall, it'll cause issues. Mine did. I found out my stock mag worked better when I pushed it very slightly to the left (looking from behinid) with my finger. I agree with those who touted CARM magazines. get some. Just keep in mind the CARM mags are taller. He has the specs on his website so measure your scope mounts and ensure clearance. I also think more usage will help the cocking and ifyou fiddle with the trigger I think you'll get a happy medium. Let us know

My Notos had the same issues like mentioned above. The included magazine was junk out of the box. The hammer spring wouldn't turn left or right it was stuck in place. Trigger was simple to adjust down to 12 ounces so that was a plus. Cleaned the barrel until clean, purchased 15 shot mega mags from Maple Canada and solved the mag problems. It shot amazing groups at 25 yards that were one ragged hole so that was impressive. I love the gun but due to the hammer spring problem I called PA and they gave me rma# for return. They got it back but now waiting on a replacement gun that is out of stock until 10-23-23. I've got the eBay plenum sitting here ready to install when my new gun comes. Man this is one popular pcp! Can't wait to work on the gun and do some more shooting when it returns. Happy shooting all!

It's a great platform for upgrading for sure. I know you kept it and have been enjoying as well as mine. I ordered the highly polished plenum off of eBay and a drop block to add a bottle for more shots so it's coming along nicely! Have a great one.

Send it back, something wrong with it. Mine is smooth, accurate, quiet, excellent trigger, not difficult to cock, never jambs. P.S. I use Carm 10 shot mags.

Sounds like a good project. I was out shooting mine at 10-55 yards and I was very impressed with it even with CPHP and in the wind
Ran about 100 pellets through mine today at 25 yards. There was no wind today and 70 degrees. Perfect day for target shooting. It never gets boring shooting hole in hole at 25 yards! Weathers gonna change soon, we better enjoy it while we can!
