Let’s Look At The New Weihrauch HW30N

Let’s Look At The New Weihrauch HW30N. It’s a special, limited production run model at Airguns of Arizona and the “N” stands for “Nussbaum” – that’s the German word for walnut.

Just one look at the HW30N and it’s clear. It’s an instant classic!

In fact, the gun we have here has a dedicated left-handed stock. There’s dedicated right-hander available as well, of course.

As a left-handed shooter himself, HAM tester Doug Rogers is testing this gun for HAM. That’s him in the photographs accompanying today’s article. Thanks Doug!

The walnut stock is simply superb! There’s lots of attractive figuring in the wood, plus some “tiger striping” that’s more prominent in real life than in my photographs. The stock’s shape is both attractive and comfortable, with areas of nicely-executed checkering.

(This stock makes me want to rush over to the workshop, pop it of the action and lovingly massage about 6 Zillion thin coats of oil into it. Well, you know what I mean! Yes, it is oiled already, but I’m sure that it could look even more gorgeous with some additional love and attention from the owner.)

Of course Weihrauch’s Rekord trigger is fitted to the guns. The HAM testers have always been impressed with this trigger: initial informal “pre-test testing” reinforced that expectation for this HW30.

Of course Weihrauch springers are all equipped with a set of quality open sights. However we installed a Hawke AirMax scope for testing and this required removal of the rear sight to obtain the necessary clearance when cocking the gun.

The Weihrauch HW30N is also interesting for being fitted with sling swivels. This is an unusual feature on any breakbarrel. The rear swivel is installed in the buttstock, while the front is mounted on the barrel

Never having shot a springer with a mounted sling, we had to try it-of course!

Looking at the underside of the pistol grip, you’ll see the Airguns of Arizona logo engraved in the base…

True, Hard Air Magazine has reviewed a HW30 before. It won a Gold Award with a score of 89%. However, it’s good to check-out the latest version of this classic air rifle.

Every year Weihrauch makes small, but often significant, improvements to their airguns. So we are interested to check-out this latest production model. Plus Doug gets to shoot an airgun with a real left-handed stock, rather than the usual ambidextrous offerings. That’s a real treat for him!

Lovely gun. Doug's a leftie, attaboy! Plus one on the oil....I'd bet the company that made my TX200 stock made this one as well! It just begged (and recieved) a few coats of oil shortly after buying it. I've been pining for an HW50 myself to round out my springer collection, did you folks find the stock more of a youths size, or a decently comfortable adult fit on the 30? Looks a liiiittle short in the photos. Thanks.

When we reviewed the (ambi) HW30 before, we made this comment "Although the pull length from trigger blade to rear of buttpad is relatively short at 14-Inches, the 6-Feet plus HAM testers both found the HW30 comfortable to shoot." I'm guessing the same will apply to the Walnut gun, but Doug will be able to comment more once he has more shots under his belt, I'm sure...
