Those who follow some of my adventures know that I do a ton of Coyote hunting on a regular basis. This last week I went out into the remote mountains with my daughter Elizabeth and dog Marley to setup camp and explore some new hunting grounds. Part of being successful as a hunter is to be prepared and learn about the environment and animals we will be hunting. This area has large sandstone peaks and canyons that is home to a large population of Coyotes, this trip was to find some of the dens and to find areas to setup stands for future trips. The Western Airguns Long Strike is a beast of a rifle producing near 400fpe and being its semi-automatic makes it a great candidate as a predator gun. Airguns Of Arizona did outfit me with this rifle and I have been very successful with it out in the field this past year, Western Airguns has created a good machine here.

For this trip I was shooting the 360gr HighArc Hunters that have proven to be very effective on large game, have yet to use them on Coyotes as my prior use was with the 265gr NSA's that have been equally as accurate. The 360gr is a big pill, especially shown next to a 60gr .30 slug.

I did a little shooting to check zero at 50 yards and we headed off!

Elizabeth, Marley and I hiked up a dry riverbed that has steep sandstone embankments with scattered pinion pines scattered about. This is an absolutely stunning area, my daughter was in heaven with all the sand and rocks, two of her favorite things.

We did hike a good way from camp where the sandstone cliffs became much more prominent, lots of tracks and even some fresh scat along the way.

Elizabeth found some shotgun shells that she collected that had been scattered around the area, she's on the right track picking up trash people leave to rot.

We did find what looked to be a good-sized coyote den that had a worn path leading inside. This was a good spot to setup the trail camera where I had hoped to capture some activity throughout the rest of the day and night.

We made our way back to camp where we setup for the evening, we even decorated a nearby bush to bring some holiday ambiance into camp.

Elizabeth really enjoys her time out, loves hiking and exploring much as I do. We settled in for a nice relaxing evening under the moonlight along with some dinner and marshmellows!

The following day was very unproductive but we did hike back to gather the trail camera that showed no activity. We did find a promising new area and I have not given up, I think it might be worth my time to head back for a few days. I did document our little adventure in much more detail through the enclosed video, I hope some of you might enjoy it. Hope to share more very soon! Cheers
