Are you a long range hunter or up close and personal?

I love hearing the thump and dump I’ve never cared for long shots. What’s your preference? Also close shots for me at least don’t require constant practice, wind reading, dialing, holding over……
Mike? It depends, I take any reasonable, safe shot at vermin. But in general, I practice airgunning like bow hunting, I like to get close. Yes, my guns are quite capable at further distances. Me? Not so much, I knowledge I am the weak link and send accordingly.

This is a difficult question for me to answer because it’s more of a feeling of “I can make the shot” or I can’t. Of course within the limitations of my Airgun, my Origin certainly was more restrictive than the Airacuda or S510.

I don’t think I have a preference, I just trust my gut.

Up close and personal for me. I can't see as well as I could when I was younger. Even when using a scope on higher magnification I prefer the shots to be 20 to 30 yards max. It's nice to hear the thud when the round takes out the groundhog. Ahhh, good times!

For me it has mostly been up close because I like to still hunt not big into going up trees. The closer I get the more fun it is. Most of the deer I have taken were only 15-30 yards but one was about 300 yards and one was 2 feet from the muzzle, there were 2 bucks running at me and I only had time to take one of them. Have taken coyotes from 5 feet out too around 200 yards. I have a limit on airguns of 50 yards for no reason, just because I want to. I am more about the hunt than the kill.

There is truly nothing like the POP (forget the thud 🤣) an 18gr pellet makes screaming @ 880fps into a bird at 25 to 40 yards. You know what I realized though? (yes @FL22 here it comes) that 98Yard shot on the bird I made... Complete silence. It was like long range, slow mo scope cam footage, But what it made up for in silence, was my jaw dropping to the floor as I stared at my 1 week old Helix scope on my 1 month old Ghost that I had yet to shoot past 60Yards. Ahhh good times. indeed. Now if I'm hunting for food (Rabbits!) I will get as close as possible and head shots only. I love both but for connection success 30 to 50 Yards is king to me.

I’m starting to feel like I was there and can remember it with you 😂. It’s all good bro. 👍

Plenty of rabbit around here wish I could eat, but I think I’m allergic. Every time I’ve ever eaten one I break out in hives.

Both, and I have guns for both scenarios. In general I always get as close as reasonably possible. While pesting I regularly take 100 yard plus shots on squirrels and pigeon. If ratting, rarely over 30 yards. If I can get close I will. if I have a 98 yard shot on a sitting ground squirrel and a good shooting rest, I won't leave that good shooting platform to close to 50 yards and take an offhand shot. All just depends on the quarry, the gun, and the conditions

It is starting to feel like that 😂, it's all good...yeah I'm sure other guys following along are 'tired' of hearing the story,🤭 but it's still amazes me! I put the emphasis on how it was not on account of my experience or skill but a combination of alot of things going on. That's to bad about the rabbit! Last one I cooked was not stellar. My dad thought it was a pretty old specimen?....shoulda made stew instead of bbq maybe🤔

When you get a slug barrel for the ghost, you should be able to replicate it and farther away consistently, right?

Replicate it, and do so consistently. I hope to long bomb some pest birds in the 75 to 125Y range. I am on my crappy bench right now with zero wind and I'm slinging every ammo option I own in the 19 to 25gr range @50Y, out of air 🥺, nothing is at an inch. Many are close but @ 100 it's just chance and 10-12 inch groups probably...I'd be happy with 4inch @ 100 but unlikely with what I have currently. My other 3 guns are narrowed down to shoot 1 or 2 pellet options really well. Still working on the Ghost!

I like the sound of a close up shot, "schwack" but I do love reaching out over 100 yards on squirrels and P dogs. Judging the wind, dialing for distance and then sending the pellet or slug....If you miss you adjust and send another.
