Just starting down this path again. So figured I would ask if you guys have had any luck with slugs in the 22 Ghost HP?

Did do some shooting at the range today and the jsb 25.4 pellets did the best. Tried slugs from 22-34 grains from speeds at 800-950 fps. And at close ranges some did show promise, once at 50 yards things went bad.

I do have a hollow ogive and the boat tail to play with to see what happens. The 30 grain hollow point boat tail did show promise. Need to play more to see what I can come up with.

I wouldn’t waste too much time i did some testing and no joy. 28” 177 barrel likes slugs tried 25 and no joy don’t have a 30 but doubt it would be good.

There are guys that have done it....but with custom barrels. Would be nice to find an actual slug barrel.

I believe the guy who made all those Ghost Slug video's is Steve Brew (Precision Airgunning on FB). I joined for the sole reason of finding out Brk Ghost slug barrel info, lol used wifes account. It's very quiet on the group about that topic sadly. He has made some barrels for the Ghost in the past and had good success with them, I remember folks on a chat saying the new factory slug barrels were way overpriced from Daystate/Brk....
Your groups don't look bad at all @Woogie_man! Last time I shot my Ghost 23gr NSA slugs grouped better than Mrds @ 50Y....I had no words...🤨😮‍💨🤦‍♂️ The HP slow twist barrel drives me crazy. A 5 shot slug group usually looks like this: 3 will be super tight and 2 will be out to lunch pretty bad with no real predictability.

Those were groups at 20 yards........

Was seeing the same thing at 50 yards. A few would look half decent, and another would be an inch or two outside the rest.

The ones that were semi decent were the boat tails, but they were so inconsistent. Would LOVE a decent slug barrel, but there is nothing.

You asked for a slug barrel and here is one. I began shooting it this weekend. Best groups were .8 MOA @75 yds at around 900FPS. That was shooting an H&N 33gr Precision slugs. I'm going to be selling this setup in 2 configurations.

One is the simple Outer Barrel with Breech and Muzzle end to hold a FX liner in much the same way FX does, just with very heavy duty outer barrel. The outer barrel is twice the thickness of a FX outer barrel providing far great strength and the same 15mm OD as the standard barrel. Simply slip in your FX liner of choice and shoot. PS you can put the air splitter and outer shroud from your stock barrel onto the new one and no one will know.

The second configuration adds the Harmonic Modulator system that I have developed by molding on a super thick carbon fiber tube and adding a custom barrel support and a barrel tuner. This you can either mold in the liner to the outer tube (best results) or leave it open for changing of the liner in the system.

Now when it comes to shooting the heavy slugs the system is going to need a expanded plenum for total volume. As it would happen I have ordered the first prototype for this last night.

Interesting....so what length barrel kits you sell? 5,6, and 700 mm? If slinging .22gr slugs with a 700mm, the stock Ghost has plenty of power to send em, except maybe 36gr and up...🤔

Hello Ham

Sub Moa is six to eight weeks away from cutting slug barrels 1-16 twists in 22 for Ghost. Plug and play. Semi bull barrel with ZERO threads on muzzle. We will have a slip on adapter for moderator fitting. We have a LOT of R&D testing. We will have the best slug barrels for airguns. I know a strong statement however we can monitor and change dimensions and twist rates at will. As well as a world class lapping machine. We are finally moving.

Rob

Why no threads on the muzzle end?? Would much rather threads on the muzzle over a slip on solution.

How confident are you with the 6 to 8 weeks? Many of us have heard things like that before from other companies, only to have nothing happen or a much longer wait.

Hello.

In our extensive testing threads on the muzzle end can only hurt precision. Please keep in mind. Sub Moa is undertaking a project of epic proportions. No other barrel maker in the world is manufacturing single point 5r cut rifling for airguns. To my knowledge. The process is arduous and time consuming. However the precision is unmatched. For this reason we do not want to experience the potential of a barrel designed for the ultimate in accuracy be degraded by a 1/2 x 20 thread on a critical part of the barrel. Sub Moa will oem barrels with muzzle threads. At this stage in the process i want jaw dropping accuracy.

6 weeks is the target.

We can't use mods up here anyways, lol. Very exciting, getting them out is one thing, getting it right is another, and takes time no doubt! Will they be shipping to other countries (Canada) eventually as well? I recall watching a video with a short clip of one of the Submoa guys (tracy?) saying how good his Ghost barrel was @ 100Y a good year or so ago....I bought my Ghost knowing full well it wouldn't (and doesn't!) shoot slugs, to specifically shoot slugs with it. This is exciting, thanks for the updates.

You are most welcome.

Thanks for the explanation Rob! You will have to say hi to Doug the next time he comes into the shop ;) He has been having fun down there getting away from the snow. Still can't get him to do any kind of field target shooting though!

Anyways..........

I have always heard about cutting threads will hurt the accuracy, but I have done many in the powder burning world and have never seen any kind of decrease of accuracy. That was from Bartlein, Kreiger, Lother Walther, and many other top level barrels. Now I am also not shooting benchrest where 0.10" will cost me a match or prize money. Shooting NRL22, PRS, and hunting you don't see much in the way of poor accuracy.

Do you have any insights on how an adapter will be affixed to the barrels? And how accurately they will be made to ensure there is no clipping or anything in our devices?

Just to make it clear to everyone... I am not trying to argue or nit pick anything with the barrels. Just asking questions and learning as well. Not trying to me rude or anything Rob :D

Due to a very gracious friend with machining abilities, I've been on the receiving end of a decent number of rebarelling projects. Perhaps the one he was most hesitant for was to thread the end of an unchoked barrel with standard 1/2x20. As he predicted, the bore opened up slightly where he cut the threads, and since it started as unchoked, that ended up being the widest part of the bore, and of course that last 1/2" or so is the worst place for it to be. Accuracy results with that barrel were okay, but not amazing.
